The later Early Carboniferous; a time of great innovation on land, with a great radiation of stem tetrapods and the first proto-amniotes.

Vegetation includes the lycopsid tree Archaeosigillaria, sphenopsids like Archaeocalamites/Calamites and Sphenophyllum, filicalean ferns, and small pteridosperms such as Heterangium.
